Washington DC Trip 2020 and 2021

This is certainly not the outcome we were hoping for, but due to conditions surrounding D.C., along with following the State of Michigan’s recommended guidance for off-site fieldtrips during phase 4, we are left with no other choice but to cancel the October 22nd Washington, D.C. trip. We have waited as long as possible to make this final decision, giving it every chance, we could to make the trip happen. We have also postponed the fall registration for our Spring (May 2021) trip until we receive further health and safety information later into this school year.  If and when restrictions are lifted, we will open registration for our 8th grade FMS students at that time.

Over the past several weeks, we have closely monitored the reopening of Washington, D.C. and the surrounding areas. With recent updates, we do not have confidence that D.C. will be ready for group travel in October. According to “What’s Open, Reopening, Closed, and Canceled in Washington, D.C.” (, government officials are still advising against all non-essential travel to the area. In addition, many attractions are still closed or are not permitting groups, including the Smithsonians, the U.S. Capitol, and Arlington National Cemetery.

Even with social distancing protocols in place, we would not be able to provide the quality of trip your student deserves.
