Important information about Free and Reduced Meals
Flushing Community Schools is proud of our Child Nutrition staff and the meals that they offer every school day. Good nutrition is an important part of a child's education. Without access to adequate nutrtion, learning is hampered. If your child is eligible to participate in the Free or Reduced School Meal Plan, it is important to submit your information in a timely manner.
Please note that for anyone using the Food Benefit Program (Free or Reduced Lunch Program), a new application must be submitted at the beginning of every school year, unless you received a letter in August from the Child Nutrition Department stating you are pre-qualified. If your child is new to the district, an application must be filled out and approved before your child will start receiving free and reduced meals. Please send a sack lunch with your child or plan on paying full price for your child's meals until you receive an approval letter from the Child Nutrition Department. For those who attended Flushing Community Schools in 2019-2020 and were approved for the 2019-2020 school year, you have until October 13. 2020, to submit your new application. If you have not submitted a new application and been approved by October 13, 2020, you will be required to pay for your child’s meals until we have received and approved your new application. If you are new to our district the grace period does not apply.
Applications are for a full family, so only one is required to be submitted per family. Please allow time for application approval, as this process can take up to two weeks. Please note you must pay for meals until your application has been approved.
You can use the Online Free & Reduced Lunch Application link to apply starting August 3, 2020. We encourage you to use the on-line application as it is more secure and quicker. Paper applications for the Food Benefit Program for the 2020-2021 school year will be available in the main office for those who are unable to submit on-line. Reading this Frequently Asked Questions regarding Free & Reduced Meals document might help as you prepare to fill out an application.
