    Readers are Leaders Owl

    Dear Parents,

Reading between home and school is an important part of our reading program. The children are polishing their skills as readers, therefore it is imperative that they read, read, read! Consistent daily reading will expose your child to various authors styles and will improve your child's fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. My main goals are that the children will become fluent readers, choose to read for both information and pleasure, and develop a passion and love for reading. I will also be encouraging the children to choose books from a variety of genres (types of literature) throughout the course of the school year.

Please encourage your child to read aloud to you. The purpose is to help your child develop fluency, thereby strengthening comprehension. It would be helpful if you could watch your child as he/she enters the book title, author, and minutes read on their record sheet after they have completed their reading. Also, ask your child to select three different Reader's Response questions each week. If you need an extra copy of the Reading Log, please click on the link below.

It is always exciting to develop an environment where children can enjoy books for a lifetime. Together we can build a community of readers. Thank you for your help, support, and cooperation with our reading program!

                                                                                     All the best,

                                                                                     Mrs. Swales
